News On The Swine Flu

Why is swine flu getting so much hype?
I keep seeing this on the news that swine flu is now considered a “inevetiable pandemic” and we are all being warned to wash our hands, ect. What I wonder about tho is why this is getting so much attention. Correct me if im wrong but swine flu is no more deadly than the regular Flu Virus (which kills around 36,000 americans every year) so whats the big deal here?
K, the common answer here seems to be that this virus is killing people with healthy immune systems that would easily survive the common cold, but I have to say i’ve been following a lot of broadcasts on this and not yet have I heard that. Can someone provide a source stating that it is killing heatly average people?
The big deal is this: the people who have died From Swine Flu were young and healthy – the kind of people who have stellar immune systems. Those 36,000 americans you mentioned? They tend to be elderly, children, already sick, etc. They have depressed immune systems and are unable to fight off the regular flu. But the swine flu is different. It’s behaving like the 1918 flu that killed 100 million people – most of those victims were young and healthy people.
That’s the source of the hype.
