Is the decision by certain segments of society to call Swine Flu, Mexican Flu wrong?
Is renaming this Flu StrainFrom Swine Flu to Mexican Flu just another way to instill fear and prejudice against a people who already are subjected to a great deal of hate from the United States.
Yes it is, as to what to call it? H1N1 is actually its proper name.
Why would it be incorrect to call it by its proper name, either in Israel, or in Egypt?
Although both countries decided to call it something else, the impact of calling it by the country it was first found in is fairly common and Mexicans and illegal immigration aren’t a problem for them as they are for us.
Here, I get the feeling that some radio personalities would like us to go out and burn the nearest Taco Bell.
Diseases with common usage names like veneral diseases were historically called French diseases by the English, and English diseases by the French.
In this country there is a portion of the population up in arms about Mexicans, legal, or illegal and they have already made many comments about “dirty Mexicans” etc.
Some in the public eye are fanning the flames of prejudice, and pandemics cause fear in the lowest element of humanity, ones looking for an excuse to display their ignorant behavior.
If calling the flu by its scientific name is too much for people, you have to wonder why calling it Mexican flu is used when Swine flu is what its closer to being.
And yes, the Asian community did object to its being labeled Asian flu.

How long does it take for the swine flu to appear?
